Emergency doctors have appealed to patients not to put off getting medical help if they are feeling unwell.
It comes in response to rocketing numbers of people coming into the A&E department at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
In the past week around 1,600 patients have been seen with emergency problems.
Almost every bed in all three city hospitals is full and many staff are voluntarily working extra shifts to cope with demand.
