Nottinghamshire County Council has announced a blanket ban on employees lighting up in work hours.
The authority says it will discipline workers who are caught smoking at any time during their working hours on any council-owned buildings, land or vehicles.
The use of E-cigarettes has also been banned.
A policy document said council staff had 'no right to smoke' and the council had a " key role" in promoting better health in the county.
